Game prototype launch
Devlog #1: Launching the Prototype for "Little Water Big Problems"
Hey everyone, Vechiine here!
I'm thrilled to share that I've just launched the prototype for my game, "Little Water Big Problems", created for Pixel Game Jam 2024! This is my first foray into game development, and I'm excited (and a bit nervous) to show you what I've been working on.
About the Game
"Little Water Big Problems" is a 2D shooter where you take on the roles of a magical seahorse and a protective ocean fairy. Your mission? To save the world's last water well from being overwhelmed by human trash. The theme for this game jam was Aqua, and I wanted to highlight the environmental issues affecting our oceans in a fun and engaging way.
Development Journey
Initial Concept
When I first read about the theme, I knew I wanted to create something that not only entertained but also raised awareness about ocean pollution. The idea of a seahorse and an ocean fairy teaming up came naturally, inspired by the mystical and often overlooked beauty of sea creatures.
Art and Design
Creating the characters and the underwater world was a labor of love. The ocean fairy has unique abilities to combat the incoming trash by shooting small and big bubbles.
Programming Challenges
Coding the game was a significant challenge. I spent countless hours debugging and figuring out how to make the mechanics work smoothly. Implementing the shooting mechanics and creating small visual details was particularly tricky.
Music and Sound
For the sound design, I made simple sound effects using beepbox to create an immersive underwater atmosphere. The frenetic background music and the splashing sounds add a layer of immersion to the gameplay.
What’s Next?
Now that the prototype is out, I’m eager to hear feedback from players. Here are a few things I’m planning to work on next:
- Improving Controls: Making the controls more intuitive and responsive based on player feedback.
- More Levels and Enemies: Expanding the game with more challenging levels and a variety of trash enemies.
- Story Elements: Adding a narrative to give players a deeper connection to the characters and the mission.
Try the Prototype!
I invite you all to try out "Little Water Big Problems" and let me know what you think. Your feedback is invaluable and will help shape the future of the game. You can play the prototype here on my itch.io page.
Thank you for your support and happy gaming!
